Email Correspondence Prior to 3 (ABAR) Icebreaker Methods (Gaining consent for incorporating into structured Tutorial’s):

To UAL Staff:

Hello,

I am emailing to let you know about my intentions for my PG Cert Action research project- (in which I will work with the tutorials in the coming weeks) to bring about a additional framework that will not interfere with the already proposed structure, its just an additional exercise to structure a sense of belonging and inclusion for our students through a pastoral icebreaker on Friday. Possibly an intervention for stuck moments and another icebreaker on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th so that I can compare responses.

I am then planning to email the students whom are over 18 the following day to see how it was for them.

Is that okay?

All best wishes,

Becki

Hi Rebecca

Do you mean you will do the icebreaker in the tutorial? If so, I’m a bit concerned that the time is limited in the tutorials and there is quite a lot to cover. Could you give a bit more detail about it please?

Have you been advised to only email the students who are over 18? Is there something age specific in the activity or is it the asking for feedback which is age specific?

Thanks and best wishes too

Camilla

Hi Camilla,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I am aware of limit with the time constraints-  so what I am asking students to do this week is (really quick max two mins- using a method called 1 photo voice as a means of belonging) –  to take a digital photograph and share with me one which sums up how they are feeling about the course so far, as a means of freeform into discussion about the questions we will cover in the tutorial.

So it should be really short but just encourage them to open up, practicing inclusivity and promoting belonging.

I regards to age- I have been advised to only email the students who are over 18 so as not to seek permission from family’s as it is too lengthy to await feedback. The icebreaker itself is not age specific.

My asking of feedback on the effectiveness of the tutorial would be anonymous and would ask for consent.

I hope that answers your question Camilla? Does it sound okay?

All best wishes,

Becki x

Hi

Thanks for explaining. That sounds fine to me, Claire do you want to sign off on it?

I really like the idea of them using visual feedback and am interested to hear how it goes.

I have not heard of anything like that about the families but sounds best to follow the advice to be sure not to break protocol.

Thanks

Camilla

I meant to say if they are under 18, then we would need permission. Sorry! It should be fine.

Thanks Camilla.

All best wishes

Becki x

Yes, I thought that’s what you meant. By the way under 18s are highlighted yellow on the tracker in column G.

Thanks

Camilla
