My Action Research Intervention reflections on ABAR Methods in One-to-One Online Tutorials
ABAR Methods Planning and Interventions
Throughout this (ARP) i have aimed to explore how the integration of Art-Based Action Research (ABAR) methods in one-to-one tutorials could potentially better foster a sense of compassionate belonging and inclusion for tutors and students (particularly in their first weeks of study at UAL’s Foundation in Art and Design (FAD intergrated within an otherwise structured tutorial). The three main interventions I employed were PhotoVoice, Metaphorical Self-Portraits, and “Stuckness” Drawings. Each of these creative methods was used and designed to provide a different approach to self-efficacy, self-expression and reflection, enabling students tofeel empowered to articulate their narratives, experiences, challenges, and aspirations.
The goal was really just this; to engage students in a reflective, creative process that would facilitate personal expression and deepen their connection with their course, their work, and their tutors. These interventions served as my selected tools to bridge the emotional and academic aspects of the students’ transitioning into a higher education enviroment.
